Aguamansa
The little town of Aguamansa can be found on the main TF 21 road linking the beautiful town of La Orotava and majestic Mount Teide. If you drive too quickly along this road, you'll probably miss it. The town is very much of a rural base, with houses and hamlets. This area has a local economy based on traditional agriculture and relieve it or not, fish farms. You can actually visit the farm and see how the trout are produced. All the restaurants both near and far, benefit from the farm. Locally grown produce thrive on the wet climate from the constant cloud and mist which descends upon the area. The interaction of Mount Teide, winds, slopes and forest all contribute to its individual ecosystem. This climate produces an abundance of trees, bushes, shrubs, lichen, ferns, mosses and flowers. One such flower which thrives here is the Balm of Gilead. This is a pretty pink flower which has a wonderful scent about it. It has a use in medicine for colds and flu and can also be turned into a herbal tea where it's soothing properties can aid an upset stomach and digestion. Moving up the slopes above Aguamansa, there are many rock formations notably Los Organos, which resemble the musical pipes of a church organ. These unusual natural Rights are one f the reason the area attracts a lot of tourists, photographers, walkers and cyclists. Within the woodlands are specially developed areas to have a picnic and take in the views from various miradors and especially in the La Caldera. For those who enjoy trekking and rambling, one can find marked out trails and footpaths which meander through the Woods. Form a photographers viewpoint, the woodlands can provide some fantastic atmospheric shots. When the mist rolls in and the sun shines in from above, it produces magical fingers of shimmering light which dances between the trees. The most convenient way of getting there is by car. Failing that, the local bus service number 345 stops there on its way to Puerto de la Cruz and La Caldera. return Further Articles |
