Golf
Playing golf (photos), on one of Tenerife's professionally designed and well-maintained courses assures you of some excellent golf, whether you are a seasoned hacker or the owner of a beautiful swing and handicap. The spectacular scenery with palm trees and tropical flowering plants, sometimes snow-topped Mount Teide, the Atlantic Ocean, the neighbouring islands of El Hierro and La Gomera, makes it a wonderful experience of being out in the open air.
The island is home to five championship courses which are all open to the public. The Tenerife golf high season is from the 1st October until the 30th April, but you can play 365 days of the year, taking advantage of Tenerife's year round amiable climate. This golf friendly island is rapidly becoming a major destination for golfers from all over the world. Equipment can be hired, as can electric 'buggies' or plain old-fashioned 'caddy carts'. Tee times can be booked easily even without club membership. Proper golf attire is expected, as most regular golfers will understand.
Tenerife is on the golf circuit as it hosts the Ladies Tenerife Open (article). Famous names come to the island with various golf clubs being given the honour of holding the competition which is televised and followed by a wide audience from all over the world. The 2009 tournament is being held at the Golf Costa Adeje (photos) on the 24th to 27th of September. Golf Costa Adeje (article) Hosted the 2008 tournament as well. For those of you holidaying at this time, we recommend going along to watch the girls in action. The entrance is free and you will have a super day and appreciate the all round golf skills of the ladies.
