La Orotava
La Orotava is a beautiful town and valley located on the north coast of Tenerife. It is located about 5 km east of Puerto de la Cruz and about 33 km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife The population is 39,909 as of 2004). The La Orotava area is the largest in the entire island of Tenerife. The area runs from sea level to the 3,718 m summit of Teide. La Orotava is linked with the TF5 Motorway and the old highway linking Icod de los Vinos and the capital. Farmlands cover the valley areas.

The coat of arms or La Orotava was adopted by Alfonso XIII in 1906. In gastronomy, La Orotava was honored by the Denomination of the Origin of the Orotava Valley of wines.

Other smaller areas to found within the boundaries are La Florida, La Fariña, La Perdoma, Pinolere, La Torrita, Iván's house and La Cruz del Teide.

There are numerous sites of interest such as the Nuestra Señora de la Concepción, El Ayuntamiento (Town Hall), Mirador Humboldt, Casa Molina, Plaza de San Francisco and La Casa de Los Balcones. The town really comes to life during the celebrations of Corpus Christi in June. Thousands descend on the town to view the 'alfombras' or 'carpets' which are made of flower petals and different coloured volcanic sand.
