Buenavista del Norte
Buenavista del Norte (Spanish for "good view") is a municipality and town on the north coast of Tenerife. It covers an area of 67 square kilometers with a population of 5,225 as of 2006. It is located on the TF42 road about 75 km west of the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 65km from Tenerife North Airport. The quaint town has streets of clearly Andalusian architecture influence. Nevertheless, apart from the influence of the Conquistadors, there is a fine mixture showing traditions of Portuguese inhabitants and of Guanches, which have helped to make up the particular charm of this district. The people have, due to the scarcity of resources, been characterised by an unquenchable spirit of conservation, which has kept alive traditions such as craftwork in bone, wood, cane and straw. The area is noted for its spectacular landscape and mountains of the Teno Rural Parque. Each year sees a steady influx of visitors both tourist and locals alike. The beautiful Buenavista del Norte Golf Course has put the town on the map as an important golfing Mecca. Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios. This baroque style church is home to some of the most important paintings and pieces of gold work to be found on the island. These include the image of the Virgin of The Remedies, a sculpture of the XVII century and The Holiest Trinidad or the Picture of Souls. The first stone was laid in 1513 and additions have been made over time through donations from the villagers and neighbours. < return Further Articles |
