Poris de Abona
We joined Poris de Abona (fotos) for a lazy Sunday of taking Tenerife photos and images. Poris de Abona is a quaint fishing village on the south east coast near Arico. It's 25 miles from Santa Cruz, 22 miles from Los Cristianos and 12 miles form the south airport Reina Sofia. If you want a laid back holiday away from the normal tourist trappings, then this is the place to be. The town has developed with the gentler side of tourism is mind, so it is not at all spoilt by the sprawling masses associated with say, Playa de Las Americas. There are bungalow and apartment complexes developing all the time and the views of the sea are fantastic. Poris de Abona has two elements to its town. The main town itself is the base for its fishing industry. Here you will find a small pebble beach which is popular with locals and visitors alike, but not in a crowded sense. The fishing boats can be seen coming and going and vary from the motor driven to the rowing boat variety. The local council is developing the town with nice walkways and promenades, so you can have a lovely stroll taking in the sights and sounds of this lovely village. The promenades are wheelchair friendly. The main road houses the little local bars for refreshments, snacks and tapas. A little distance to the south, one minute in the car, is the other half of this town. This is where the lighthouse is situated which was first built in 1902. A red and white landmark which dominates the seaward skyline. Form here you get a wonderful panorama of the sea and coastline. There are plenty of coastline walks for the those wishing to be more energetic. If you look inland to you get a marvellous view of Mount Teide and in the foreground the wonderful line of white windmills all busy generating power. The beach here is just fabulous. It is a natural gentle, shallow, curving beach with light coloured sand as opposed to the volcanic black sand. This is great for the kids to paddle around in and have fun to their hearts content. There are lifeguards on duty keeping a watchful eye on proceedings. There is also a little quay which many people use as a fishing platform or accessing the sea via the steps to swim, snorkel or scuba dive. A walk up the pavements from the beach to the top and you will find the church square with the church stood on its own. The terminus bustop is also here. The local bus to Poris from Granadilla is the 430 which calls in at Chimiche, El Rio, Villa de Arico, Arico El Viejo and finally Poris de Abona. The buses leave Poris for Granadilla at 11:00, 12:30, 15:00 and 16:30. The other bus service is the 130 from Santa Cruz to Granadilla. This calls in from the Autopista Sur, Cruce Castillas, Cruce Candelaria, Cruce Guimar, Cruce Arico, Poris de Abona, Arico el Nuevo, Villa de Arico, El Rio, Los Blanquitos and Granadilla. They leave Santa Cruz at 07:45 and 20:00. They leave Granadilla at 05:45 and 18:00. return Further Articles |
