Tenerife Ladies Open
The Ladies European Tour (fotos), has been in existence since 1978. Its headquarters is in Tytherington, Cheshire, UK All its members work tirelessly in promoting the ladies golf scene in a professional way and to very high standards with everyone linked and associated with the sport.

Tenerife has been fortunate to hold the ladies tournament and always maximizes the opportunity to make sure everything runs smoothly leaving a lasting impression of the whole ladies professional golf scene.

Various clubs have hosted the tournament such as Golf del Sur, Abama and Costa Adeje to name the last three venues.

Around 275 ladies make up the present circuit of players and they come from all over the world. Some are regular visitors to the Tenerife golf scene, whilst others attend as and when time schedules allow.

2009 will see the ladies returning to Golf Costa Adeje (fotos), from September 24th to 27th. With its coastal location, the course has stunning views over the sea with La Gomera on the doorstep and the course has been expertly designed utilizing the natural form of the land. The mountains and Teide offer a contrasting backdrop. The natural beauty of the course and landscape offer many possibilities for taking wonderful photos of the ladies in action, the spectators and the course itself.

The 2008 tournament proved to be very exciting and intense as two players battled out a sudden death play off. Four days of competition graced with hot sunny conditions, culminated in the thrilling Sunday. The girls really turned up the heat on the final day with Rebecca Hudson, Anne-Lise Caudel, Gwladys Nocera, Carlota Ciganda, Maria Verchenova, Marta Silva, and Melissa Reid, all battling it out for the honours.

Two local girls, Carlota Ciganda and Marta Silva, put in impressive performances as amateurs to give the professionals a real run for their money. They finished 4th and 6th respectively.

At the end of the final round, Rebecca Hudson and Anne-Lise Caudel were level pegging and a sudden death play off was needed. The 18th hole was played twice without deciding the outcome and so they played the 17th. This was rather unfortunate for the crowds amassed around the 18th green. Rebecca Hudson almost won it with her approach shot on to the green as the ball cupped the hole on its run in. Final putts were made and Rebecca Hudson emerged victorious and was traditionally drenched in water and champagne by fellow players.

There is obviously an etiquette for taking golf fotos during competition and that is basically don't click during the back swing and stay out of eyeline unless you have a large telephoto lens. We have found the ladies to be most accommodating when taking their fotos, but being a good judge of body language can help to see when it is not a good time to click away. The ladies play with a superb attitude and smiles on their faces. The large and knowledgeable crowds following the action are always entertained and witness superb golf in wonderful weather.

The standard of golf is without question, on par with the men and the thing we love about photographing them is the shear elegance and style they have. Their body shapes produce wonderful forms and their dress code always ensures lots of colour.
